Hello everyone, I wanted to write up a quick review on my latest read. I absolutely loved How to Have a Killer Time in DC, it felt like a breath of fresh air compared to my other recent reads.

How to Have A Killer Time in DC, the first in a new series of cozy mysteries by Sam Lumley
How to Have A Killer Time in DC, the first in a new series of cozy mysteries by Sam Lumley

The story follows Oliver Popp, a gay and autistic, travel writer on his first big assignment in DC where he links up with photographer Ricky Warner, and the two stumble into a murder mystery. Oliver and Ricky have great dialogue and really bring out the best in each other which is definitely one of the highlights of Lumley's book. I was also a fan of the budding romance between our two leads. I do enjoy a buildup or slow burn romance, and I can't wait to see how the relationship develops in later books.

I don't typically read cozy mysteries as I often think the sub-genre relies too much on puns and lightheartedness, but this one kept me engaged the whole time. I don't want to delve too much into the plot, so that way I can avoid spoilers, but I definitely look forward to Oliver and Ricky's next adventure up on the Oregon coast.

My final rating on the book would be 4/5 stars, it was a great read. A good campy fun time through DC and I look forward to seeing what Lumley does with his other books.
